Why Are the Hyacinth Macaw and Glaucous Macaw So Similar?

The Glaucous Macaw

The Origins of the Macaw

Despite these early records, it was commonly assumed that the glaucous macaw had gone extinct in the wild.
In 2010, isotopic analysis of eggshells and macaw feces showed that the glaucous macaw still exist in the wild in northwestern Mexico. The results of this study were published in Science. The authors suggest that glaucous Macaws found in the wild could originate from a Paquime population in northern Chihuahua. The apparent longevity of the birds is a result of the fact that they are adaptable to their environment and survive in various environments, including arid desert conditions.
The Future of the Macaws
